Protecting our communities
Assistant Commissioner Frank Armstrong

Don W Randall MBE

Chairman, City of London Crime Prevention Association

Chairman Project Griffin Steering Group

“Project Griffin represents a huge asset to the police in the fight against terrorism and crime. The involvement and participation of private sector security personnel has dramatically increased awareness and the reporting of hostile reconnaissance and other suspicious activity.

"As it successfully forges a partnership between law enforcement, business and the private sector security industry, Project Griffin is recognised as delivering best practice. Four years in, this recognition is fully justified, not just because of the number of security personnel participating, but also the numerous instances where public safety and crime prevention initiatives have been put in place as a direct consequence of Griffin related activities.

“As the key strands of the project are utilized, whether the sharing of information, raised security awareness, or the various special deployments, it is clear that Griffin instils a high sense of pride among those participating.

“The recently introduced online refresher package further enhances the Griffin concept and application. It raises the awareness and knowledge of security personnel and provides recognition of their participation.

“Griffin is also proving to be internationally transferable, as evidenced by the interest in implementing the concept in Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Africa, the USA, Canada, and various countries within the EU.

“As Assistant Commissioner Frank Armstrong states, being able to rely on the ‘eyes and ears’ of the community is a key factor in keeping our respective communities safe."
