Assistant Commissioner, City of London Police
“It’s been four years since the City of London Police first introduced Project Griffin, forging a valuable partnership between ourselves and the business community, which has achieved visible success in maintaining the Square Mile as one of the safest areas in the country. Since then, I am pleased to report the initiative has been taken up by many forces around the country. We are proud to be involved in co-ordinating this project, and not just in the UK but overseas too. Griffin is becoming global because Griffin works.
“Quite simply, Project Griffin empowers people in the local community to report suspicious activity and behaviour. After all, it is people going about their everyday business who often notice unusual behaviour. When something doesn’t feel right and suspicions are raised, the police want to know about it. By working together, with people in the community acting as our ‘eyes and ears’, we can all help to prevent and deter acts of crime and terrorism.
“With the Government’s focus on ensuring that communities know who their local officers are and how to contact them to discuss local issues, Project Griffin provides an important link between the police and the business community, helping to develop partnerships for everyone’s benefit.”
